Besides winning the 2010 International Commerzbank Chamber Music Competition in Frankfurt and the 2015 “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” Competition in Graz, the Trio Atanassov has been awarded numerous other prizes in major piano trio competitions around the world, including the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan, the Trondheim International Competition in Norway, the Haydn Competition in Vienna, the Joseph Joachim International Chamber Music Competition in Weimar, the Vibrarte Competition and the FNAPEC Competition in Paris.

Although successful as soloists, the musicians decided to found the Trio in 2007, after they graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
The Trio has been a member of the European Chamber Music Academy since June 2008 and has been particularly marked by the musical influence of its artistic director, Hatto Beyerle.
The trio attended many other masterclasses and could get the advice of musical masters such Ferenc Rados, Menahem Pressler, Ysaye Quartet, Hagen Quartet, Jean Paul Trio, etc.

The Trio Atanassov has also won recognition from the critics:

The Trio Atanassov is now one of France’s most prominent young ensembles, regularly touring France and throughout the rest of Europe.

The Trio released its first CD in 2013 (Smetana & Dvorak, Hänssler Classic). This recording met with great critical acclaim, was elected « France Musique’s Choice », and was awarded a DIAPASON D’OR.

In 2016, the trio will be on the roads of France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy : Contemporary Music Society of Lausanne – Festival international de Colmar – Septembre Musical de l’Orne – Estivales de Musique en Médoc – Festival Estival de Trélazé – Festival du Vigan – Rencontres musicales ProQuartet …
2017 will see the trio’s debut in the Vienna’s Musikverein, and the release of a new album (with the label Megadisc Classics), dedicated to the armenian composer Vache Sharafyan.

Offering a fresh outlook on the piano trio

Extending from Haydn trios to the newest works of the 21st century, the repertoire of the trio Atanassov covers a vast period of time and spreads over a wide range of musical traditions.

Emphasis is placed of course on the main works from the long history of this venerable instrumental setting (Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Dvorak, Brahms, Ravel), but the piano trio has kept fascinating composers over the years – a series of outstanding works were composed during the last decades, the strong originality of which breathed new life into the old model.

Thus, imaginative and full of personality, the trio Atanassov perpetuates and freshens up the tradition of piano trio by putting forward unique compositions that cross cultures and have their roots in the most various musical influences.

Fondé en 2007 par trois jeunes musiciens diplômés du Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) – Pierre-Kaloyann Atanassov piano, Perceval Gilles violon et Sarah Sultan violoncelle – le trio Atanassov se fait connaitre sur le plan international en gagnant deux ans après le 3ème prix (1er et 2ème non attribués) au Concours International Joseph Haydn de Vienne (Autriche) ainsi que le prix spécial pour la meilleur interprétation du trio de Haydn.

En 2010, il remporte le premier prix au Concours international de trio avec piano de Francfort (Allemagne).
Après avoir glané plusieurs autre prix internationaux en Europe et en Asie (Paris – Vibrarte, Trondheim- Norvège, Joseph Joachim de Weimar- Allemagne, Osaka- Japon…), sa victoire en 2015 au Concours « Schubert et la musique contemporaine »  de Graz (Autriche) avec également le prix spécial pour la meilleure interprétation de l’oeuvre contemporaine en font ainsi l’un des ensembles les plus primés de sa génération avec neuf prix internationaux.

Fin 2013 voit la sortie de son premier disque consacré à la musique romantique d’Europe Centrale (Smetana-Dvorak). Particulièrement bien accueilli par la presse internationale, il reçoit un diapason d’or en 2014 et est élu « le choix de France Musique ».

Le trio Atanassov est passé plusieurs fois chez Frédéric Lodéon (« carrefour de Lodéon », « invité coup de coeur »), ainsi que dans différentes émissions sur France Musique (le matin des musiciens, génération jeune talents, leur premier CD, un dimanche idéal) avec en 2015 la retransmission en direct de son concert depuis le festival de Radio France Montpellier.

Il est également présent sur les ondes européennes : Hessicher Rundfunk 2 et SWR (Allemagne), ORF (Autriche), Catalunya Musica (Espagne), Radio Nationale Bulgare, Musiq’3  (Radio Nationale Belge).

Le trio Atanassov mène une carrière qui le conduit sur les scènes françaises (la Folle Journée, Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, Cité de la Musique de Paris, Festival de Radio France Montpellier, Festival de l’Orangerie de Sceaux…) et étrangères (Alte Oper de Francfort/Main, Wigmore Hall de Londres, Philharmonie de Sofia, Festival Ars Nova de Bruxelles, Société de Musique Contemporaine de Lausanne, Schubertiade d’Espace 2 – Radio et Télévision Suisse …).

Ouvert à tous les horizons musicaux, le trio Atanassov présente un large répertoire qui s’étend de Haydn aux oeuvres les plus récentes du XXIème siècle. A ce titre, il est le dédicataire d’une œuvre que lui a écrite le compositeur arménien Vache Sharafyan, et créée par le trio en 2014.
